How fast can you actually get here?

Honest answer: it depends on where you are and what time it is. Anyone quoting one flat number for a service area this shape is guessing.

Rockland is compact — roughly 14 miles across at its widest — and the Palisades Parkway and the Thruway make most of it quick to reach outside rush hour. Orange County is a different animal. It is many times the land area, and the run from Suffern out to Middletown, or from Newburgh over to Warwick, is a real drive.

What actually moves the number

When you call, you get a time window before you agree to anything. If we can't reach you in a sensible window, we say so on the phone instead of letting you wait.

Why Choose TrustKey

Who turns up at your door?

A licensed technician in a marked vehicle, carrying company ID. Ask to see it — and if someone arrives unmarked and won't identify themselves, don't let them work. That is true of us and of anyone else you call.

We won't open a door or a vehicle without proof you have the right to be there. For a home that means photo ID with the address, or a lease, utility bill or mortgage statement in your name. For a vehicle, registration or title plus photo ID. If your ID is locked inside, we can usually work it out on the phone — but it has to be established before anything opens.

What do you actually do out here?

Car lockouts and car keys

Keys locked in the car, or keys gone entirely. We open the vehicle on site, and if the key itself is lost we cut and program a replacement from the van — no tow to a dealership.

The call we get most in this area is the park-and-ride lockout. Someone comes back to the lot at Suffern, Sloatsburg or Harriman off the Metro-North Port Jervis line and the fob is sitting on the passenger seat. A close second: the Palisades Center decks in West Nyack — six levels, and people genuinely cannot find the car, then discover the keys are inside it when they do.

We handle standard keys, transponder keys, remote fobs and push-to-start proximity keys for most makes.

House and apartment lockouts

Front doors, back doors, garage side-doors, and bedroom doors that latched with a toddler on the wrong side. We open without drilling wherever the hardware allows it — and where drilling is the only route, we tell you before we start and we replace the cylinder.

Housing stock matters here more than people expect. New City, Nanuet and Pomona are heavy on mid-century split-levels and ranches, which usually means residential hardware that has been rekeyed twice and is now sloppy. Nyack, Piermont and Warwick have genuinely old stock — pre-war and Victorian homes with mortise locks that need someone who has actually seen a mortise lock, not a man with a drill. Spring Valley and Haverstraw have a lot of multi-family, where the real question is usually the building's master system rather than one door.

Rekeying and lock changes

Two situations drive this: you just closed on a house, or someone who had a key shouldn't have one any more. Rekeying keeps your existing hardware and changes the pins so old keys stop working. It is almost always cheaper than replacing locks.

If you have just bought in Rockland or Orange, rekey every exterior door — including the garage entry door and any door into a finished basement. That last one is what people forget.

Safes

Opening safes you are locked out of, changing combinations, and servicing digital keypads that have started failing. Home safes, gun safes, drop safes and small commercial units. This is the service where we ask the most questions on the phone — brand, model, dial or keypad, whether it is bolted down — because that determines whether it is a twenty-minute job or a two-hour one.

Commercial and access control

Storefronts on Main Street in Nyack and Warwick, offices around Pearl River and Orangeburg, and the retail strips on Route 59 and Route 211. Panic hardware and exit devices, commercial deadbolts and mortise locks, master key systems, keypad and fob access, and door closers.

The most common commercial call in this area is a failed exit device or door closer on a storefront. That is a code issue, not just an inconvenience, and it needs fixing the same day.

Locked out right now? Do these five things first.

  1. Actually check every door and window. Back doors, side doors, garage service doors, basement bulkheads. In older Nyack and Warwick houses there is very often a second entrance nobody uses. This solves it maybe one time in six and costs you nothing.
  2. Don't break a window. A pane of glass costs more than a lockout call, and now you have a hole in your house at night.
  3. Don't try the credit-card trick on a deadbolt. It doesn't work on a deadbolt, and on a spring latch you will usually just bend the card and scratch the jamb. Bump-key videos will damage your cylinder, and then you are paying for the lockout and a new lock.
  4. If it's cold, get somewhere warm. This is the real risk here from December through March. Locked out in Stony Point or Warwick at 11pm in January, sit in a running car or a neighbour's kitchen while you wait — not on the step.
  5. Have three things ready when you call: the exact address including apartment or unit number, what kind of door or vehicle, and whether you have ID showing you live there or own the vehicle.

If you are locked out of a car with a child or a pet inside, hang up and call 911 first. Emergency services get there faster than any locksmith and they are the right call. We will still come — but they go first.

Why do locks fail more here in winter?

The Hudson Valley puts locks through a real freeze-thaw cycle, and it shows up in predictable ways.

Locksmith FAQ

Quick answers before you call or request service.

Which towns in Rockland and Orange County do you serve?

In Rockland: Nanuet, Nyack, West Nyack, New City, Suffern, Monsey, Spring Valley and Pearl River. In Orange: Middletown, Newburgh, Monroe, Goshen, Warwick and Chester. If your town is not on the list, call and ask — we will tell you straight whether we can reach you in a sensible window.

Are you open at 2am?

The phone is answered 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Overnight dispatch depends on where you are and what the job is, and you will be told on the call — not left waiting to find out.

Can you make a car key if I have lost every single one?

Usually yes. With no key at all we originate one from the vehicle, which means proving ownership with registration or title plus photo ID, and it takes longer than duplicating an existing key. Have the paperwork ready and we can tell you on the phone whether your specific year and model is doable from the van.

Is a locksmith cheaper than the dealership for a car key?

For most vehicles yes, and you skip the tow. The dealer route is typically tow plus key plus programming plus a day without the car. We come to the vehicle instead.

Should I rekey or replace my locks?

Rekey if the hardware is in good shape and you just need old keys to stop working — it keeps your existing locks and changes the pins. Replace if the lock is worn, corroded, damaged, or you want a security upgrade. On a house you have just bought in Rockland or Orange, rekeying every exterior door is usually the right call and cheaper than it sounds.

Can you open my safe without wrecking it?

Often yes — by manipulation or a factory-authorised reset, depending on the make. Some safes can only be opened by drilling, which we then repair where the manufacturer allows it. Give us the brand and model on the phone and we will tell you which category yours falls into before we start.

Will you damage my door or my car?

The goal is always non-destructive entry, and on the large majority of jobs that is what happens. Some high-security cylinders and some vehicles genuinely cannot be opened without destroying a component. In those cases we explain it, quote the replacement, and get your approval first. Nobody drills anything on a shrug.

What ID do you need before you open a door?

For a home: photo ID showing that address, or a lease, utility bill or mortgage statement in your name. For a vehicle: registration or title plus photo ID. If your ID is inside the locked house or car we can usually work it out, but we do have to establish it before anything opens. That requirement is the difference between a licensed locksmith and someone who will open any door for cash.

Do you handle safe opening and commercial locksmith work?

Yes. Safe opening, commercial lockouts, business lock service, office rekeying, master key systems, access control, keypads, panic hardware and door closers.

Do you install smart locks?

Yes — supply and install, or install a unit you already bought. Worth knowing: a smart lock is only as good as the door it sits in. If the frame is soft or the strike is shallow, an expensive smart lock does not make the door harder to kick in. We will tell you if that is the situation rather than just fitting it.

I'm just over the line in New Jersey — do you cover me?

Yes. See our New Jersey locksmith service page. Plenty of our Rockland calls come from people who work in NJ and live in NY, or the reverse.

What details should I send in the form?

Your name, phone number, full service address, ZIP code and the service you need. That is enough for us to understand the job and give you a realistic window before we call you back.
